Fencibles Fury – 9th Grade Girls Champions at Three Kings
Sunday 14th August saw the Fencibles Fury out to get their first tournament win at Three Kings after 4 years of blood, sweat and lots of tears. Game 1 was a nil all draw against Three Kings Blue followed by a 1-0 victory over Three Kings Green. Our 3rd and final pool match was against our neighbours that we had never before faced, Buckland’s Beach. With a convincing 5-0 win over Buckland’s Beach, we finished top of the table going into the semi-finals.The girls sealed a spot in the Championship Final having beaten Buckland’s Beach for the second time 3-0. When we came off the field from our semi, we were thoroughly pleased to see the two Three Kings teams still battling away for the second finals spot having drawn nil all at full time. It was the turn of Three Kings to go to extra time followed by a penalty shoot-out; a position that our Fencibles Girls have unfortunately become very used to over the years. The final was against Three Kings Blue (our first round draw) but our Coaches (Diane Harrison assisted by Debbie McGregor) kept the girls in check and encouraged them all the way. Golden Boot recipient for the tournament, Kate McGregor scored first securing the girls a 1-0 lead at half-time. Fellow striker Louise Turley slotted a second goal shortly before full-time to guarantee the win for the team. Final score 2-0 to Fencibles Fury! Congratulations to all the players, coaches and parents who have supported this team through some nail biting clashes over the years. It’s great to come away with the win as we prepare for our next tournament at Forrest Hill Milford this weekend in the lead up to the Nationals in October.
